Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced IIM Bangalore will establish its first international campus in Malang, Indonesia. The new campus will offer programs focused on AI, climate, and healthcare management, benefiting students across the ASEAN region.

In a significant move for international education, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore will establish its first international campus in Malang, Indonesia. The announcement, made jointly with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, marks a pivotal step in expanding India's premier business education globally and is expected to benefit students and professionals across the ASEAN region.

Strategic Location and Global Expansion

The new IIM Bangalore campus will be situated within the Singhasari Special Economic Zone in Malang. This initiative represents IIM Bangalore's inaugural overseas presence and aligns with India's National Education Policy 2020, which actively encourages top Indian institutions to broaden their reach beyond national borders. The move follows similar international expansions by other prominent Indian institutions, including IIM Ahmedabad's campus in Dubai, IIT Delhi's presence in Abu Dhabi, and IIT Madras's campus in Zanzibar.

Future-Focused Curriculum

The curriculum at the Indonesian campus is meticulously designed around five critical areas shaping contemporary global business: global supply chains, digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), climate and sustainability, and healthcare management. Students will gain unparalleled access to insights from industry leaders, renowned academics, and global experts. Additionally, the program offers unique opportunities for short academic immersion stints at IIM Bangalore's main campus in Bengaluru, India.

Phased Rollout and Regional Impact

The campus will commence operations by offering Executive Education programs tailored for senior professionals, business leaders, and government officials. Following a successful initial two-year period, IIM Bangalore plans to introduce degree-granting management programs. While the primary target audience is Indonesian students, the campus is also strategically positioned to attract learners from across Southeast Asia, establishing Malang as a regional hub for management education with a strong Indian academic foundation.
