Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is significantly enhancing its ground transportation network, introducing a range of new bus, taxi, auto, and shuttle services beginning this October. These additions aim to provide travelers with more convenient and affordable options for reaching Mumbai, Pune, and various parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
MSRTC e-Shivai Electric Bus Services Launch
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is set to launch its e-Shivai electric bus services from NMIA on October 7. These services will offer direct connections to key destinations with competitive fares:
- Dadar East: ₹170
- Borivali: ₹210
- Pune: ₹450
Children under 12 years of age and women utilizing a National Common Mobility Card will be eligible for half-fare discounts. The new bus routes include the Dadar-NMIA service via Sion and Atal Setu, and the Borivali-NMIA service connecting CSMIA Terminal 1, Bandra, and Atal Setu. Two daily services will operate between Pune and NMIA, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. MSRTC also plans to extend services to Thane and Nashik by mid-November.
Expanded Bus Options Across the Region
Beyond MSRTC, passengers will have access to additional bus services:
- Chalo Bus: Operates 21 daily services connecting NMIA to Marol in Andheri East, Bandra, Dadar, and the World Trade Centre in Colaba.
- Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT): Offers seven dedicated airport routes (A1 to A7) within Navi Mumbai, linking Terminal 1 with Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Panvel, Khandeshwar, and the Airport Project Office. Buses on Belapur and Nerul routes run every 15–20 minutes during peak hours, with more services planned for Vashi and Panvel.
Taxi, Auto, and Car Rental Availability
Travelers will find a comprehensive suite of on-demand and prepaid transport options:
- App-based services: Uber Go, Uber Premier, and Uber Auto will be available from the airport.
- Prepaid services: Both prepaid taxis and prepaid autorickshaws are being introduced.
- Car Rentals: Car rental services will also be accessible.
- Bharat Taxi: Scheduled to commence operations on October 10 with a dedicated fleet of up to 40 vehicles.
Complimentary Inter-Airport Shuttle
A significant convenience for connecting passengers is the complimentary shuttle service operating between NMIA and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). This shuttle, run by Cityflo, Aarya, and Chalo, will operate hourly, facilitating seamless transfers between the two major airports.
Enhanced Connectivity and Future Plans
The airport's ground transport capacity is being scaled up to accommodate 4,594 vehicles, including 3,787 app-based taxis, 184 car rentals, 171 autos, and 547 buses. NMIA is well-connected to Panvel, Targhar, and Bamandongri suburban railway stations. Road access is facilitated by major arteries like Atal Setu, Sion-Panvel Highway, Palm Beach Road, Amra Marg (NH-348A), and NH-548.
Furthermore, Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 is already operational, and the proposed Mumbai Metro Line 8 is planned to directly connect CSMIA and NMIA. The airport is also collaborating with Adani TotalEnergies Gas (ATGL) to accelerate the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, supporting sustainable transportation initiatives.
