PhysicsWallah Narrows Q4 Loss, Revenue Up 51%; Details AI Integration Strategy

· · 3 min read

Edtech firm PhysicsWallah reported a narrowed Q4 loss of Rs 81 crore, down from Rs 330 crore last year, with revenue from operations growing 51% to Rs 919 crore. The company clarified its AI strategy, emphasizing its role as a student tutor, not a teacher replacement.

Edtech giant PhysicsWallah announced a significant reduction in its quarterly losses for the March quarter, reporting an Rs 81 crore loss compared to Rs 330 crore in the same period last year. The company also saw its revenue from operations surge by 51% year-over-year, reaching Rs 919 crore.

Q4 Performance and Seasonal Factors

PhysicsWallah clarified that the March quarter (Q4) is typically one of its lightest business periods. This is due to the conclusion of most batch cycles, which impacts revenue recognition and margins during this specific quarter. Despite this seasonal effect, the company demonstrated strong growth metrics.

In contrast to the Q4 loss, PhysicsWallah had posted a profit of Rs 144 crore in the preceding December quarter. The company's pre-IndAS Ebitda for Q4 stood at Rs 9 crore, a notable improvement from a loss of Rs 140 crore in Q4 of the previous fiscal year (FY25).

The edtech platform highlighted that a single decision window, from March to September, drives the majority of its cash collections for the year, accounting for 79% of FY26 collections. However, this cash is recognized as revenue gradually over the duration of each batch, typically across Q2 and Q3.

Growth Across Segments

PhysicsWallah reported robust growth in both its online and offline segments:

  • Online Revenue: This segment, comprising 50% of total sales, grew 39% year-over-year to Rs 1,954 crore. Unique transacting users increased by 18% to 4.87 million, with 13 out of 16 categories showing double-digit enrollment growth. Average Collection Per User (ACPU) expanded by 11.4% to Rs 4,104, driven by strong uptake in value-added services.
  • Offline Sales: Accounting for 45% of revenue, offline sales surged 31% year-over-year to Rs 1,774 crore. PhysicsWallah expanded its network significantly, adding 155 centers to reach a total of 353, and student enrollments surpassed 0.47 million. However, Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for offline services saw a 9% year-over-year decrease to Rs 36,625, attributed to changes in the segment mix.

AI Integration: Enhancing, Not Replacing, Teachers

PhysicsWallah also articulated its strategy regarding artificial intelligence (AI) integration, emphasizing that AI is not intended to replace human teachers. Instead, the company views AI as a powerful tool to augment learning experiences.

"It is a way to give every Indian student a tutor available at 11 at night, one who knows exactly where they struggle, doesn't judge them, and teaches them in their own language. Our goal is to bring the cost of this down to the lowest cost per hour. In a country where one teacher often handles five grades in a single classroom, a personal tutor for every child is no longer a luxury. It is what India needs next," PhysicsWallah stated.

This statement underscores the company's vision of leveraging AI to provide personalized, accessible, and affordable tutoring, addressing the significant student-to-teacher ratio challenges prevalent in many educational settings.
