Pace 360, a prominent fund house, has executed a significant strategic shift in its equity portfolio, drastically reducing its exposure to the Nifty benchmark index. The firm has nearly exited its Nifty positions, instead channeling its remaining equity allocation predominantly into the Bank Nifty index.
This tactical move comes after Pace 360 capitalized on a recent market rally to trim its broader equity holdings. Amit Goel, Co-Founder & Chief Global Strategist at Pace 360, confirmed the firm's decision to "just kept selling" when the Nifty index surpassed the 24,300 mark, leading to a near-zero Nifty presence in their portfolio.
Why Bank Nifty Attracts Pace 360
The rationale behind this decisive pivot towards the banking sector is rooted in fundamental analysis. Pace 360 maintains a strong conviction in banking stocks, attributing this to robust earnings performance and comparatively modest valuations within the sector. Goel highlighted that the Bank Nifty index currently trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of approximately 13 to 14, which the fund house views as highly attractive.
This valuation comfort, coupled with consistent earnings strength, positions Bank Nifty as a preferred bet for potential outperformance if the broader markets continue to rebound. The firm's residual equity allocation, reportedly around 15% at the scheme level, is now largely concentrated in banking exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tied to the Bank Nifty.
Selective Strategy, Not Broad Bullishness
Pace 360's rebalancing is not indicative of an aggressive bullish stance on equities as an entire asset class. Instead, it reflects a highly selective, valuation-driven approach. The fund house is narrowing its exposure to specific market segments where earnings visibility and valuation comfort align, rather than chasing broad market momentum.
This strategy aligns with Pace 360's broader asset allocation framework, which has seen a significant reduction in overall equity exposure. The firm has concurrently increased its allocation to corporate bonds and maintains a small position in precious metals, underscoring a cautious yet opportunistic investment philosophy.
