NTA Confirms NEET UG 2026 Re-Test Results Date
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to publish the results for the NEET UG 2026 re-test by July 20. This announcement comes as a relief for approximately 20 lakh students who participated in the medical entrance examination, which was re-conducted on June 21.
The re-examination was necessitated after the original NEET UG, initially scheduled for May 3, was scrapped due to widespread concerns over alleged paper leaks. Despite these disruptions, senior officials have affirmed that the medical academic calendar will remain on its projected schedule.
Addressing Exam Irregularities and Objections
Following the re-test, the provisional answer key was made available on June 25. Candidates were given until June 28 to challenge any answers, with a fee of Rs 200 per question, refundable if the objection was upheld. The NTA reported receiving close to 10,000 challenges.
Currently, the agency is operating on a "war footing" to review and verify each objection against supporting evidence. This meticulous process aims to finalize the answer key before the results are compiled and released by the stipulated July 20 deadline.
Post-Result Counselling and Admissions Process
Once the NEET UG 2026 results are officially declared, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will commence the counselling process for All India Quota seats. Simultaneously, individual states will manage their respective admission procedures for state quota seats.
The admissions process will involve several key steps:
- Online registration by eligible candidates.
- Filling and locking of college and course preferences.
- Seat allotment based on merit, category, reservation norms, and availability.
- Reporting to the allocated colleges for document verification and admission formalities.
Multiple rounds of counselling, including mop-up and stray vacancy rounds, are anticipated to ensure all available seats are filled. The first-year MBBS academic session typically begins between August and September, depending on the completion of the counselling cycles. Some states, such as Tamil Nadu, have already initiated preparatory admission activities in anticipation of the final result.
