Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, is significantly bolstering its ground transportation network ahead of the crucial winter travel schedule, which commences on October 25, 2026, and runs until March 27, 2027. This expansion aims to provide passengers with a wider array of public transport options, including new electric buses, dedicated airport routes, app-based taxis, and a complimentary shuttle service to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
New Electric Bus Services and Routes
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will launch its e-Shivai electric bus services from NMIA on October 7. The initial phase will connect the airport with key destinations:
- Pune: ₹450 (two daily services, morning and afternoon)
- Borivali: ₹210 (connecting via CSMIA Terminal 1, Bandra, and Atal Setu)
- Dadar East: ₹170 (running via Sion and Atal Setu)
These e-Shivai services will operate from early morning until late night. Children under 12 and women utilizing a National Common Mobility Card will be eligible for half-fare tickets. MSRTC plans to introduce services to Thane and Nashik by mid-November.
Other Bus Operators Enhancing Connectivity
Chalo Bus currently offers 21 daily services linking NMIA to Marol (Andheri East), Bandra, Dadar, and the World Trade Centre in Colaba. The operator is adding capacity during peak hours to meet demand.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) operates seven dedicated airport routes (A1 to A7), connecting Terminal 1 with Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Panvel, Khandeshwar, and the Airport Project Office. Services to Belapur and Nerul are particularly frequent, running every 15-20 minutes during peak times. Further expansion to Vashi and Panvel is also in the pipeline.
Expanded Taxi and Auto Options
Passengers will have convenient access to a range of taxi and auto services:
- App-based Cabs: Uber Go and Uber Premier will have designated pickup zones. Uber Auto will also be available for shorter distances.
- Prepaid Services: Prepaid taxis and autorickshaws will be readily accessible.
- Car Rentals: Car rental services will be available, with Bharat Taxi commencing operations on October 10 with a dedicated fleet of up to 40 vehicles.
Free Inter-Airport Shuttle Service
NMIA will introduce a complimentary inter-airport shuttle service, connecting it directly with Mumbai’s CSMIA. Operated by Cityflo, Aarya, and Chalo, this shuttle will run hourly, providing a seamless transfer between the two major airports.
Overall Capacity and Infrastructure Upgrades
The airport is scaling up its total ground transport capacity to 4,594 vehicles and buses, encompassing 3,787 app-based taxis, 184 car rentals, 171 autos, and 547 buses. NMIA is also investing in improved mobility signage, advanced wayfinding systems, and enhanced passenger assistance. Dedicated zones are being established for buses, shuttles, arrivals, departures, and private vehicles to streamline traffic flow and passenger experience.
NMIA benefits from strong existing connectivity to suburban railway stations like Panvel, Targhar, and Bamandongri, and major road networks including the Atal Setu, Sion-Panvel Highway, Palm Beach Road, Amra Marg (NH-348A), and NH-548. Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 is already operational, and the proposed Mumbai Metro Line 8 is planned to connect CSMIA and NMIA, further enhancing regional access. Additionally, NMIA is collaborating with Adani TotalEnergies Gas to accelerate the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
