Indian consumers are facing higher costs for cooking and vehicle fuels as LPG, CNG, and PNG prices have seen notable increases across major cities. The latest adjustments, effective September 10, 2026, reflect a surge in international LNG prices and ongoing geopolitical instability.
CNG and PNG See Significant Hikes
Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) raised CNG prices in Mumbai by ₹2 per kg, bringing the new rate to ₹88 per kg. Simultaneously, domestic piped natural gas (DPNG) prices increased by ₹1 per SCM in the city. This follows a recent hike by Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) in Delhi, where CNG prices rose by ₹3.89 per kg to ₹86.98 per kg from ₹83.09 per kg. IGL cited a sharp rise in international LNG prices, exacerbated by the renewed West Asia crisis and disruptions to gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
Since January, Delhi's CNG prices have climbed by nearly ₹10 per kg, starting from ₹77.09 per kg. These prices continue to vary across states due to differences in local VAT and taxes.
