The financial power of the Indian Premier League (IPL) continues to astonish, with a recent study revealing that the league's top cricketers earn more than many corporate chief executives. Virat Kohli, the iconic Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter, has emerged as the highest-earning player in IPL history, accumulating a staggering ₹230.2 crore over his long tenure.

According to a Hurun India-Fanatic Sports study, which ranked the top 25 highest-earning IPL cricketers based on their cumulative earnings since the tournament's inception in 2008, Kohli leads a list of formidable cricketing talents.

Top Earners Dominate Financial Charts

Following closely behind Kohli is Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, whose cumulative IPL earnings stand at ₹227.2 crore. Legendary former Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni secures the third spot, having earned ₹200.3 crore throughout his illustrious IPL career.

The study underscores the immense commercial value generated by these athletes within the world's premier T20 cricket league. These figures represent not just player salaries but also brand endorsements and other league-related incomes over their careers.

Beyond the Top Three

The list of high earners extends deep into the ranks of both Indian and international stars. Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is fourth with ₹157 crore, while Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant follows at ₹137.8 crore. The study further highlights the financial successes of Nicholas Pooran (₹97.7 crore), Ishan Kishan (₹93.8 crore), Axar Patel (₹90.6 crore), Jos Buttler (₹88.3 crore), and veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (₹85.9 crore). Rounding out the top 25 are players like Yuzvendra Chahal, David Miller, Krunal Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Marcus Stoinis, Suryakumar Yadav, and Trent Boult, all with substantial career earnings from the league.

IPL's Expanding Economic Footprint

The Hurun India-Fanatic Sports study also touched upon the broader economic impact of the IPL, noting that Kolkata Knight Riders was the most valuable franchise at ₹1,920 crore, followed by Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The combined valuation of all 10 IPL franchises reached an impressive ₹1.63 lakh crore, demonstrating the league's robust financial ecosystem.
