Hero Motors Shares Rally 73% in Two Weeks Post-IPO: What Should Investors Do Now?

· · 2 min read

Shares of Hero Motors Ltd. have surged 73% in two weeks since their market debut, more than doubling from the IPO price of Rs 84. Experts weigh in on whether investors should book profits or hold for long-term gains.

Hero Motors Ltd., a recent market debutant, has seen its shares skyrocket, recording a 73% increase in just two weeks since its listing on September 23. The company's initial public offering (IPO) price was set at Rs 84, and the stock has since more than doubled, delivering over 102% returns to IPO investors at its current market price of around Rs 170.

Surveillance Measures Imposed

In response to the significant price movements and heightened volatility, both the BSE and NSE have placed Hero Motors under the short-term Additional Surveillance Measure (ASM) framework. This regulatory action is designed to alert investors to unusual trading activity and potential risks associated with rapid stock fluctuations.

Expert Outlook and Investment Strategy

The impressive rally has prompted varied advice from financial analysts regarding the optimal strategy for investors.

Analyst Views on Valuation and Growth

Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services, highlighted several factors supporting investor interest in Hero Motors. He cited the company's exposure to global powertrain demand and the electric mobility sector, its international client base (including BMW and Ducati), ongoing debt reduction efforts, and sustained investments in research and development as positive indicators.

For those who were allotted shares in the IPO, Singh suggested that the substantial appreciation offers an opportunity to recover their initial capital while retaining a portion of shares for potential long-term growth. However, he cautioned fresh investors, advising them to consider waiting for a period of consolidation given the stock's elevated valuation and current volatility.

Profit Booking and Long-Term Monitoring

Kranthi Bathini, Equity Strategist at WealthMills Securities, recommended that investors who entered the market specifically for listing-day gains might consider booking some profits. For investors contemplating a more serious, long-term commitment, Bathini stressed the importance of monitoring the company's financial results for a couple of quarters, alongside management commentary, before making significant investment decisions.

Technical Analysis and Support Levels

From a technical perspective, AR Ramachandran, a Sebi-registered research analyst at Tips2trades, noted that Hero Motors is currently bullish but appears overbought on hourly charts. He identified the next resistance level at Rs 186. Ramachandran advised investors to continue booking profits, warning that a daily close below the support level of Rs 162 could trigger a decline towards Rs 127 in the near term.
