Priyadarshan's latest crime thriller, "Haiwaan," featuring the long-awaited reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan after 17 years, has opened to a lukewarm response at the domestic box office. The film recorded a net collection of just ₹7.35 crore in India over its first three days, failing to generate significant momentum.
Slow Start for Star-Studded Thriller
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, "Haiwaan" collected approximately ₹1.85 crore net on its third day, September 13, from around 4,374 shows across India. This brought its total India net collection to ₹7.35 crore, with an India gross of ₹8.80 crore. The film's occupancy rates have been notably low, hovering around 13-14% on September 14.
Global Performance and Competition
Internationally, "Haiwaan" added roughly ₹0.75 crore on its third day, pushing its overseas gross to ₹2.75 crore. Combining domestic and international figures, the film's worldwide gross after three days stands at approximately ₹11.55 crore.
The muted box office performance has been largely attributed to strong competition from other major releases. Devotional drama "Hanuman Ansh" and the highly anticipated "Mirzapur: The Movie" have reportedly dominated screen share and audience footfalls, overshadowing "Haiwaan."
What Lies Ahead for 'Haiwaan'?
Despite the considerable star power of its lead actors, "Haiwaan" has not translated initial curiosity into robust ticket sales. Industry analysts suggest the film will require a substantial surge in collections from Monday onwards, coupled with strong positive word-of-mouth, to improve its box office trajectory. The coming weeks will also see new releases, adding further pressure on the film's theatrical run.
