Daily commuters between Gurugram and Rewari may soon experience a dramatic improvement in their travel, as a new 10-kilometer highway link has officially begun its trial phase. This crucial connector, linking the Dwarka Expressway to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway, is designed to transform a typically hours-long journey into a more efficient commute.
Real-World Testing Underway
Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirm that the trial involves operating the new stretch under live traffic conditions for several days. This rigorous testing period is vital for identifying and rectifying any potential defects before the corridor is fully opened to public use. Engineers will monitor the highway closely, ensuring all issues are resolved to their satisfaction before the full vehicular load is shifted.
Addressing Technical Hurdles
During the development, a key technical challenge was identified near Garhi Harsaru: a high-tension (HT) power line running over a flyover was at a lower-than-required height. Project Director Yogesh Tilak of NHAI confirmed that work to raise this HT line is already in progress. Once this adjustment and other final checks are complete, the Dwarka–KMP link will be commissioned for full vehicular movement.
Monsoon Trials for Robustness
Authorities have strategically chosen to conduct these trials during the rainy season. This timing is intentional, as it allows engineers to expose and address any construction shortcomings, particularly material deficiencies that could lead to potholes or other issues under adverse weather conditions. The NHAI plans to monitor the corridor intensively for the next ten days, meticulously studying any defects before granting final approval.
Significant Time Savings Expected
Once fully operational, the new Gurugram-Rewari highway link is anticipated to substantially alleviate congestion on the Delhi–Jaipur highway, particularly between Gurugram and Rewari. The current 45-kilometer journey, which can take two to three hours during peak times due to heavy traffic on stretches like Gurugram-Pachgaon Chowk, is projected to shrink dramatically. Officials estimate that travel times could fall from 45 minutes to a mere 10–12 minutes, and peak-hour congestion on the Delhi–Jaipur stretch could decrease by over 30 percent, benefiting numerous villages and developed sectors in the region.
