Fortis Healthcare is significantly expanding its operational footprint across North and South India, driven by a strategy focused on acquisitions, brownfield expansions, and strategic hospital management partnerships. The hospital chain aims to build robust regional healthcare clusters, integrate diagnostics, and enhance its high-end specialty care offerings.
Strategic Acquisitions Bolster Network
In the fiscal year 2026, Fortis executed several key acquisitions and agreements to strengthen its network. In Bengaluru, it acquired the 125-bed People Tree Hospital, with plans to expand its capacity to over 300 beds. The company also purchased the 228-bed Shrimann Hospital in Jalandhar, pushing its Punjab network closer to 1,000 beds.
Further expansion includes a long-term lease agreement for a nearly 200-bed hospital in Greater Noida, designed for potential expansion to approximately 250 beds. Fortis also entered into an operations and management agreement for a proposed 550-bed greenfield hospital in Lucknow and a separate agreement with Gleneagles to manage approximately 700 beds across five hospitals.
Diversifying Services: Mental Health and Specialties
Beyond traditional hospital care, Fortis is diversifying its services. The company launched Adayu, a dedicated mental healthcare facility in Gurugram, marking its entry into adjacent care segments amid growing demand for organized mental health services. This move aligns with a broader industry trend towards cluster-led expansion, optimizing resource utilization and referral flows.
Fortis is also intensifying its focus on high-end medical specialties, which are key growth drivers for private hospital operators. Cardiac sciences, orthopaedics, neurology, gastroenterology, oncology, and renal sciences collectively contributed around 62% of hospital revenues in FY26, with renal sciences and orthopaedics showing robust growth of 22% and 21% respectively.
Technological Advancements and International Growth
The healthcare provider reported a 66% increase in robotic surgery volumes and a 19% rise in radiation therapy procedures, reflecting a growing demand for complex medical interventions. To support this, Fortis invested in five new soft tissue surgical robots, four cath labs, two MRI machines, and one PET-CT system during FY26.
International patient business also emerged as a vital component of Fortis’s growth strategy, with revenue from overseas patients increasing by 18.5% to Rs 639 crore, accounting for 7.8% of overall hospital revenue. Simultaneously, the company is scaling its diagnostics network through Agilus Diagnostics to strengthen preventive care and patient acquisition, expanding customer touchpoints to 4,445.
Strong Financial Performance
Fortis Healthcare reported a consolidated revenue of Rs 9,128 crore for FY26, marking a 17.3% increase. Operating EBITDA also saw significant growth, rising by 31.3% to Rs 2,085 crore, underscoring the success of its strategic expansion and operational efficiencies.
