Force Motors has achieved a significant manufacturing milestone, rolling out its 200,000th Mercedes-Benz engine from its state-of-the-art facility in Chakan, Pune. This accomplishment underscores a nearly three-decade-long successful engine manufacturing collaboration with the German luxury carmaker.
The landmark engine, identified as a six-cylinder M256 powertrain, has been specifically integrated into a Mercedes-Benz GLS 450. The partnership between Force Motors and Mercedes-Benz, which commenced in 1997, has steadily expanded to encompass the production of both engines and axles for all Mercedes-Benz cars and SUVs assembled in India.
Leadership Highlights Partnership Success
The celebratory event saw the attendance of key executives from both companies. Representing Force Motors was Managing Director Prasan Firodia. Mercedes-Benz Group AG was represented by Dr. Joerg Burzer, Chief Technology Officer for Development & Procurement; Michael Schiebe, responsible for Production, Quality and Supply Chain Management; and Mathias Geisen, responsible for Sales & Customer Experience. Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, was also present.
Commenting on this pivotal accomplishment, Prasan Firodia emphasized that the milestone is a testament to the enduring strength of a partnership built on mutual trust, precision engineering, and manufacturing excellence. He highlighted that the Chakan plant was purpose-built to adhere to Mercedes-Benz’s rigorous global standards, asserting that each engine produced there reflects Force Motors’ unwavering commitment to quality and operational superiority.
Indo-German Collaboration and 'Make in India'
Both companies have described their collaborative relationship as a prime example of Indo-German industrial cooperation within the automotive sector. It particularly showcases Force Motors’ capability to deliver German-quality engineering standards from India, aligning perfectly with the Indian government's 'Make in India' initiative.
Beyond its commitments to Mercedes-Benz, Force Motors also manufactures and tests engines for BMW’s locally assembled vehicles at its Chennai facility, further solidifying its position as a key supplier in India's luxury automotive manufacturing landscape.
