LPG users, particularly those benefiting from the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), face a critical deadline: August 16, 2026, to complete their Aadhaar-based e-KYC. Missing this date could lead to the loss of subsidized domestic LPG cylinder rates, as oil marketing companies have issued reminders to customers.
PMUY e-KYC: The August 16 Deadline
For millions of households receiving LPG under the PMUY scheme, completing e-KYC is mandatory to continue availing cylinders at domestic rates. The deadline is firm, and customers have been informed that non-compliance will render them ineligible for the subsidized pricing until the e-KYC process is finalized.
Customers can complete their e-KYC through several convenient methods:
- Via the IndianOil ONE App.
- At their nearest LPG distributor.
- Through the delivery personnel during a cylinder delivery.
This initiative aims to streamline the distribution process and ensure benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.
Commercial LPG Prices See Further Reductions
In a relief for businesses, commercial LPG cylinder prices (19 kg) have been reduced for the second consecutive month, effective August 1. This cut offers significant savings for restaurants, hotels, and other commercial establishments reliant on these larger cylinders.
- Delhi: A 19 kg cylinder now costs Rs 2,738, following a Rs 192 reduction.
- Mumbai: Prices dropped by Rs 194 to Rs 2,691.50.
- Kolkata: Experienced the largest cut of Rs 209, bringing the price to Rs 2,872.50.
- Chennai: Saw a reduction of Rs 200, with the price now at Rs 2,906.
Domestic LPG Prices Remain Unchanged
For household consumers, the price of the standard 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder remains stable this month. There have been no changes to the rates:
- Delhi: Rs 942
- Kolkata: Rs 968
- Mumbai: Rs 941.50
- Chennai: Rs 957.50
Expansion of Lightweight Composite Cylinders
Consumers in more cities will soon have access to modern, lightweight 10 kg composite LPG cylinders. Oil marketing companies are rapidly expanding their availability and offering faster delivery services.
- IndianOil's Indane XTRALITE NOW cylinders are currently in Pune, Gurugram, Indore, and Coimbatore, with plans to expand to 25 more cities by mid-August and major cities by October.
- BPCL's Bharatgas Lite ZIP is expected to be available in over 100 cities across 24 states by August 15.
- HPCL's HP Navya 10 kg composite cylinder is already being sold through Swiggy Instamart in Bengaluru.
PNG Switch Rule Continues
The existing policy regarding piped natural gas (PNG) connections remains in effect. Households in areas with PNG availability are allowed only one cooking gas connection – either LPG or PNG. Consumers are required to switch to the piped gas network where available.
Customers who transition completely to PNG must surrender their Indane, Bharatgas, or HP Gas LPG connection within 30 days. Those moving to areas without PNG connectivity can obtain a transfer voucher to reconnect with an LPG cylinder.
Booking and Delivery Procedures
Customers are encouraged to book LPG cylinders online for convenience. Upon delivery, a Delivery Authentication Code (DAC), or OTP, will be sent to the registered mobile number. This OTP must be shared with the delivery executive to complete the transaction. Without the OTP, the cylinder will not be delivered.
The refill lock-in period also remains unchanged: 25 days for urban customers and 45 days for rural customers.
