Exide Industries, a prominent Indian battery manufacturer, has officially announced a new strategic cooperation with Germany's ExCom Energy Solutions GmbH. This long-term alliance aims to significantly strengthen and expand Exide's industrial battery and energy storage footprint throughout the European Economic Area (EEA).
The agreement, formalized on September 15, dictates that products developed under this partnership will be marketed and sold under the ExCom brand. ExCom GmbH will serve as the central commercial and technical interface for customers across the EEA, overseeing customer development, distribution, technical project support, and coordination of after-sales services in the region.
Initial Focus on Traction and Motive-Power Batteries
The collaboration will initially concentrate on high-demand sectors, specifically targeting traction and motive-power batteries. These are critical components for material-handling equipment, logistics operations, and various other industrial mobility applications. Beyond these, the partnership will also encompass stationary battery systems, crucial for industrial, infrastructure, and energy storage applications.
Exide Industries emphasized that this cooperation will provide customers with a broader and more integrated range of solutions. This includes comprehensive battery systems, advanced charging technologies, seamless system integration, expert application engineering, and full lifecycle services. All products will be meticulously adapted to meet the specific technical, regulatory, and operational requirements prevalent in the EEA market.
Leveraging Synergies for Market Growth
This strategic pact combines Exide India's robust manufacturing capabilities, extensive technology portfolio, and deep experience in industrial battery solutions with ExCom's established market presence, specialized application engineering expertise, and local customer support infrastructure. This synergy is expected to create a powerful platform for growth in the European market.
Avik Roy, Managing Director and CEO of Exide Industries, highlighted the strategic importance of the EEA, noting its increasing demand for reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy solutions. While the initial focus will include existing lead-acid battery technologies, there is a clear vision to explore selected advanced chemistry applications as the partnership evolves. The cooperation is designed to cover the entire battery lifecycle, from initial product selection and system design through installation, operation, maintenance, and ongoing service.
