· · 2 min read

Engineers India Ltd (EIL) shares rose 6% after securing a contract exceeding $450 million to execute Dangote Group's new 700,000 BPD greenfield refinery and petrochemical plant in Kenya. This project aims to bolster East African fuel production and energy security.

Engineers India Ltd (EIL) saw its shares climb by 6 per cent following the announcement that the company has secured a significant contract with the Dangote Group. EIL will act as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) consultant for a new mega greenfield refinery and petrochemical plant in Kenya.

Major Contract for East African Energy Security

The contract, valued at over $450 million, underscores EIL's expertise in large-scale energy projects. The proposed facility in Kenya is designed as a state-of-the-art 700,000 barrels per day (BPD) greenfield refinery and petrochemical complex. This ambitious project is critical for strengthening fuel production within East Africa, significantly reducing the region's reliance on imports, and enhancing overall energy security.

Beyond regional benefits, the plant is also expected to play a crucial role in supplying petroleum products to the global market, allowing the processing of a wider crude basket to meet diverse demands.

EIL's Proven Track Record with Dangote Group

This collaboration marks another significant partnership between EIL and the Dangote Group. Engineers India previously served as the PMC and EPCM consultant for the successful commissioning of the 650,000 BPD Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex at Lekki Free Zone. EIL is also currently involved in the expansion of that facility to 1.4 million barrels per day.

EIL expressed confidence in its capabilities, stating that this new contract reaffirms the trust placed in its ability to deliver projects of exceptional scale and complexity. The company plans to leverage its decades of experience, multidisciplinary strengths, and global execution model to support Dangote in creating one of the world's most advanced and integrated energy complexes.
