Shares of eMudhra Ltd., a leading provider of digital identity and cybersecurity solutions, experienced a significant rally, climbing nearly 37% over just two trading sessions. The stock gained 14.13% on Wednesday alone, reaching a high of Rs 677.50 on the BSE, bringing its two-day increase to 36.95%.
Key Appointment Fuels Market Optimism
The sharp upward movement in eMudhra's stock price follows the company's announcement that it has been appointed as a Validation Agent for Legal Entity Identifier India Ltd (LEIL) within the Global Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) System. This appointment was confirmed by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF), which oversees the worldwide LEI framework.
As a Validation Agent, eMudhra will integrate LEI application and renewal services directly into its existing identity-verification and customer-onboarding processes. This integration is designed to streamline operations for organizations, allowing them to complete LEI-related procedures concurrently with other verification steps, thereby reducing the need for separate checks across multiple platforms.
Understanding the LEI System and eMudhra's Role
LEIL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Clearing Corporation of India Ltd (CCIL), is the only LEI issuer in India recognized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act. It is also a GLEIF-accredited issuer. Under the new arrangement, LEIL will continue its primary role of issuing and maintaining LEI records, ensuring compliance with global system requirements, while eMudhra will facilitate the application and renewal process.
eMudhra's expertise in digital identity, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), electronic signatures, and certificate lifecycle management positions it well for this new role. Headquartered in Bengaluru, eMudhra operates in over 35 countries and holds the distinction of being India's largest licensed Certifying Authority.
The company believes that leveraging its existing technology and workflows will simplify the LEI process for businesses, further solidifying its position in the digital identity landscape and contributing to the broader adoption of LEI services.
