CXMT Shares Surge 466% in Shanghai Debut, Becomes China's Most Valuable Company

· · 2 min read

Chinese chipmaker CXMT saw its shares surge 466% on its Shanghai STAR Market debut, becoming China's most valuable listed company. The firm raised 57.92 billion yuan ($8.6 billion) in Asia's largest IPO of 2026 and reported a significant profit turnaround.

Hefei-based chipmaker Changxin Technology Group (CXMT) made a stunning entry onto the Shanghai STAR Market on Monday, with its shares soaring by nearly 466% on debut. This monumental surge propelled CXMT to become China's most valuable listed company, surpassing Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).

Asia's Largest IPO of 2026

The initial public offering (IPO) was priced at 8.66 yuan per share, successfully raising a substantial 57.92 billion yuan ($8.6 billion). This made it the largest listing in Asia so far in 2026. Following its debut, CXMT's shares closed at 49 yuan, establishing a market capitalization of approximately 3.3 trillion yuan, significantly exceeding ICBC's 2.6 trillion yuan valuation.

Remarkable Financial Turnaround and Market Position

CXMT also announced a dramatic improvement in its financial performance. The company reported an operating profit of 35.43 billion yuan in the first quarter, a stark contrast to the 2.83 billion yuan loss recorded in the same period last year. This turnaround is attributed to increasing global demand for computing power and strategic capacity allocation by major manufacturers.

The chipmaker has been gaining international attention, especially after reports indicated that Apple had begun testing CXMT's DRAM chips for devices sold in China. According to its IPO prospectus, CXMT held a 7.67% share of the global DRAM market in the fourth quarter of 2025. DRAM (Dynamic Random-Access Memory) chips are crucial components found in a wide array of electronic devices, from smartphones to large-scale servers. The global DRAM market is primarily dominated by industry giants such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology.

Future Investments and Growth Strategy

Founded in 2016 by chairman Zhu Yiming, CXMT plans to strategically utilize the substantial proceeds from its IPO. The funds are earmarked for strengthening the company's technological capabilities and enhancing its core competitiveness. Key investment areas include expanding memory wafer mass production and funding critical research and development projects. This listing marks a significant milestone for the Chinese memory chipmaker as it aims to solidify and expand its presence in the competitive global DRAM market.
