CBSE Class 12 Re-evaluation Window Open: How to Apply, Fees & Mark Changes

· · 2 min read

The CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation window is now open until June 6, 2026, allowing students to challenge specific questions on their scanned answer sheets. A revised fee structure is in place, and marks can potentially increase or decrease.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has opened its re-evaluation window for Class 12 students, following weeks of discussion regarding this year's evaluation process. Students who have already obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets can now apply to challenge specific questions through the official CBSE portal. The application window is active until June 6, 2026.

Application Process and Fees

To apply for re-evaluation, students must log onto the CBSE official portal, identify the questions they wish to challenge, and submit their application. The board has introduced a significantly revised fee structure for the 2026 post-result procedures, addressing previous criticisms over higher rates.

  • Scanned copy of evaluated answer book: Rs 100 per subject
  • Verification of marks: Rs 100 per subject
  • Re-evaluation: Rs 25 per question

A notable update this year is the inclusion of a refund provision. If a student's marks increase after re-evaluation, the fee paid for the specific question(s) that led to the improved score will be reimbursed.

Impact on Marks

Students considering re-evaluation should be aware that their scores can change in any direction—they may increase, decrease, or remain unchanged. CBSE has explicitly stated that the outcome of the re-evaluation process will be considered the final and binding result, updated accordingly in the student's official record. This factor is crucial for students to consider before proceeding with their applications.

Context of Student Concerns

The opening of this re-evaluation window comes at a critical time for CBSE, which has faced extensive criticism regarding its On-Screen Marking system used this year. Under this system, examiners assessed digitally scanned answer sheets, leading to widespread student concerns. Issues reported included unusually low marks, incomplete answer books, unmarked responses, and instances of mismatched scripts, where answer sheets were incorrectly assigned to students.

CBSE has acknowledged discrepancies in at least two documented cases and committed to revising marks accordingly. The scale of anxiety around this year's results is evident, with over four lakh students having applied to view their answer books and more than eleven lakh individual scripts requested. The re-evaluation window provides a crucial next step for those who identified issues in their results.
