· · 2 min read

Emraan Hashmi's 'Awarapan 2' is rapidly approaching the ₹100 crore gross milestone in India after its fourth day, significantly outperforming Sunny Deol's 'Batwara 1947' in their Independence Day box office battle. The gap between the two films has widened considerably.

The Independence Day box office clash has heavily favored Emraan Hashmi's 'Awarapan 2' over Sunny Deol's 'Batwara 1947'. After four days in theaters, 'Awarapan 2' is on the verge of crossing the ₹100 crore gross mark in India, while 'Batwara 1947' continues to struggle, lagging significantly behind.

'Awarapan 2' Box Office Performance

As of Monday morning, 'Awarapan 2' had amassed an impressive ₹81.99 crore net and ₹98.38 crore gross across India. The film, directed by Nitin Kakkar and starring Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani, and Shabana Azmi, opened strong with ₹22 crore net on Day 1 (August 14).

It saw a substantial jump on Saturday, collecting ₹33.75 crore, followed by ₹26 crore on Sunday. The live figures for Day 4 added ₹0.24 crore, pushing its total net collection to ₹81.75 crore before the final Monday numbers are reported. The film's robust performance places it within touching distance of the coveted ₹100 crore milestone, fueled by nostalgia and Hashmi's return to the franchise.

'Batwara 1947' Box Office Struggles

In stark contrast, Rajkumar Santoshi's period drama 'Batwara 1947' has experienced a slower run despite its Independence Day release and a prominent cast including Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol, and Shabana Azmi. The film, set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, opened at ₹5.75 crore net on Friday.

While it saw a jump to ₹13.50 crore on Saturday, its Sunday collection dropped to ₹7.25 crore. Including the live Day 4 figure of ₹0.07 crore, 'Batwara 1947' currently stands at ₹26.57 crore net and ₹31.69 crore gross in India. The film has struggled to gain significant momentum compared to its competitor.

Widening Box Office Gap

The disparity between the two films has grown considerably since their opening. On Day 2, 'Awarapan 2' had collected ₹33.75 crore, while 'Batwara 1947' managed ₹13.50 crore, creating an initial gap of ₹36.50 crore in net collections.

By the end of the first weekend, 'Awarapan 2' had reached ₹81.75 crore net, against 'Batwara 1947's ₹26.50 crore. This expanded the difference to ₹55.25 crore before the latest Day 4 figures, highlighting the dominant performance of 'Awarapan 2' in this cinematic showdown.
