Asian Paints Eyes High Single-Digit Growth Amid Competition & Geopolitical Risks

· · 3 min read

Asian Paints anticipates high single-digit volume growth in FY27, backed by strong demand, premiumization, and strategic expansions. The company navigates intense competition and geopolitical risks impacting raw material costs, while focusing on innovation and operational efficiency.

Asian Paints Ltd. is approaching the 2026-27 fiscal year with renewed optimism, as market analysts predict a period of improving demand, stable margins, and the strategic benefits of significant capacity expansion. Despite navigating a landscape of intense competition and fluctuating raw material prices, brokerages largely believe the country's leading paint manufacturer is well-positioned to surpass broader industry performance.

This positive outlook is attributed to Asian Paints' robust distribution network, continuous rollout of premium products, and proactive backward integration initiatives aimed at strengthening its supply chain and cost structure.

Ambitious Growth Targets and Profitability Focus

Management has set a clear target for high single-digit volume growth in FY27, alongside maintaining its EBITDA margin guidance of 18-20%. This signals strong confidence in underlying demand, even within a challenging operational environment. According to Anand Rathi, several factors are expected to bolster profitability in the coming quarters, including an improving industry demand scenario, a healthier mix of volume and value following recent price adjustments, and the cost efficiencies derived from backward integration efforts.

Strategic Advantages and Innovation Drive

Recent disruptions in raw material sourcing and logistics inadvertently favored larger, more organized players like Asian Paints, as noted by Motilal Oswal Financial Services. With one of India’s most robust supply chains and an extensive dealer network, the company effectively capitalized on additional demand, while smaller competitors grappled with supply constraints.

Innovation remains a cornerstone of Asian Paints' strategy, contributing nearly 17% to its total revenue. New product launches are concentrated in high-value segments, including premium emulsions, advanced waterproofing solutions, specialized construction chemicals, and luxury paint offerings. The company firmly believes that premiumization will continue to be a crucial growth engine as consumer preferences increasingly shift towards higher-value products.

Major Capacity Expansion to Boost Margins

A significant catalyst for FY27 is the anticipated commissioning of Asian Paints' Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) and Vinyl Acetate Emulsion (VAE) manufacturing project, expected during the second quarter. This facility will boast substantial annual capacities of 100,000 tonnes of VAM and 150,000 tonnes of VAE.

In-house production of these emulsions is projected to enhance gross margins by 300-500 basis points for products utilizing these materials, though the precise financial benefit will depend on external sourcing costs and the company's overall product mix.

Navigating Geopolitical Headwinds

Brokerage Elara has highlighted that ongoing geopolitical tensions, such as conflicts in West Asia, have intensified volatility in raw material prices and disrupted global supply chains. These factors introduce a degree of uncertainty for manufacturers, including Asian Paints.

To counteract these challenges, Asian Paints plans to increase investments in innovation, consumer engagement, and brand building. Simultaneously, the company is focused on driving operational efficiencies to safeguard profitability. The new VAE plant is also expected to bolster cost competitiveness, providing a buffer against potential raw material inflation.

Key Metrics for Investors

Brokerages identify several earnings catalysts for Asian Paints entering FY27, including strengthening industry demand, expansion into premium product categories, robust performance in rural markets, strategic capacity additions, and margin improvements from backward integration. However, competitive intensity remains exceptionally high, making volume growth, pricing discipline, and margin performance the critical metrics that investors will closely monitor in the coming quarters.
