Entrepreneur Ankur Warikoo detailed his career journey, revealing how he progressed from earning ₹14,750 monthly to an annual package of ₹33 lakh within five years after pursuing an MBA. His path highlights the impact of seizing opportunities.

Entrepreneur and content creator Ankur Warikoo recently shared an inspiring account of his career transformation, detailing his progression from a modest monthly salary of ₹14,750 to an impressive annual package of ₹33 lakh within just five years.

The Early Struggles and First Job

Warikoo recounted his return to India after discontinuing his studies in the United States, feeling uncertain about his next steps. For approximately 45 days, he diligently searched for employment through walk-ins and newspaper advertisements, eventually securing an interview with NIS Sparta. He initially hoped for a salary of ₹10,000 but was offered ₹15,000, which he accepted. He noted that despite his lack of a similar background, he joined a highly skilled team, prompting him to consider further education.

The Pivotal Decision: Indian School of Business (ISB)

The idea of pursuing an MBA at the Indian School of Business (ISB) emerged. Warikoo faced a significant financial dilemma, as admission would necessitate taking on the largest loan his family had ever considered. He calculated that if he could secure a job paying ₹35,000 after ISB—₹15,000 to cover his current earnings and ₹20,000 for loan EMIs—the investment would be justified. Concluding that it was achievable, he committed to the ISB program.

Learning and a Breakthrough Opportunity

At ISB, Warikoo immersed himself in learning from distinguished peers, focusing on absorbing knowledge rather than contributing. He then prepared for consulting roles, undergoing three interview rounds. Despite feeling uncertain after the first two, the managing director in the third round unexpectedly took a liking to him, leading to a job offer with an initial salary of ₹12 lakh per year.

Rapid Growth and Key Takeaways

After a promotion within 1.5 years, Warikoo eventually left the company three years later, by which point his annual earnings had reached ₹33 lakh. Reflecting on his journey, he emphasized that he wasn't the most intelligent person but worked diligently to prove himself worthy of trust. He concluded his account by stating, “Opportunities may come because of others. What you do after that is on you. Never stop working hard.” His story resonated widely on social media, inspiring many with its message of hope and perseverance.
