All retail liquor shops across Delhi are mandated to remain closed for a 48-hour period on October 9 and 10, according to an order issued by the Delhi government's Excise Department. This decision, dated October 8, 2026, was taken as a crucial preventive measure to maintain public order and safety.
The directive follows specific inputs received from the Delhi Police, prompting the Excise Department to act with the prior approval of competent authorities. The closure applies comprehensively to all retail liquor vends operating under various license categories, including L6, L8, L8FG, L10, and L14.
Ensuring Compliance Across the Capital
To ensure strict adherence to the new order, the Excise Department has also instructed several key government agencies. These include the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), and the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC).
These agencies are now responsible for implementing the closure across their respective jurisdictions and ensuring that all licensed liquor establishments comply fully with the 48-hour shutdown. The move underscores the Delhi government's commitment to proactive measures in response to security and public order concerns.
