Apple has officially announced a new product launch event scheduled for October 13, igniting speculation about a significant expansion of its smart home device lineup. The announcement, delivered by Apple's senior marketing executive Greg Joswiak via a short video on X, featured the message, “Welcome home. October 13,” strongly hinting at a focus on home-centric products.
Anticipated Smart Home Hub Leads the Way
The most eagerly awaited product is a long-rumored Apple smart home hub. This device is expected to feature a square display, measuring approximately 6 to 7 inches, and could serve as a central control panel for various smart home devices. Reports suggest it will support FaceTime calls, music playback, photo display, widgets, and other informational content.
Sources indicate the hub will heavily integrate Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, potentially making Siri a more intuitive and useful part of daily home interactions. Rumors also suggest Apple may offer both a tabletop version with an integrated speaker base and a wall-mounted variant, providing flexibility for users.
Updates for Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini
Beyond the smart home hub, Apple is also expected to unveil internal upgrades for its Apple TV 4K. These improvements reportedly include a newer A19 or A19 Pro chip, increased RAM, and Apple's N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7 support. An updated Siri Remote is also believed to be in development.
The second-generation HomePod mini is another product rumored for an update. Expected enhancements include a newer processor, improved audio performance, Wi-Fi 7 support, and a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. Apple is also reportedly considering new color options, such as pink and green, while maintaining the current model's design.
Further October Launches Possible
While the October 13 event focuses on smart home innovations, additional Apple product announcements could follow later in the month. MacRumors suggests the company might introduce new Macs and an OLED-equipped iPad mini. These potential launches include redesigned MacBook Pro models featuring OLED displays and M5 Pro/M5 Max chips, a 24-inch iMac with an M6 chip, and a new 14-inch MacBook Pro.
Separately, Apple's foldable iPhone Duo is reportedly scheduled for a launch on October 23, with pre-orders potentially beginning on October 16.
