Amit Shah's Five-Member Team Masterminds BJP's Bengal Election Triumph

· · 3 min read

Home Minister Amit Shah led a five-member core team that orchestrated the BJP's sweeping victory in West Bengal, securing nearly 200 of 294 seats. Their strategic campaign and grassroots organization dismantled the TMC's long-held dominance.

In a significant political shift, India's Home Minister Amit Shah, alongside a dedicated five-member team, orchestrated a sweeping victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. This strategic triumph saw the BJP secure nearly 200 out of 294 seats, dramatically reducing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to under 90, a stark contrast to the 2021 results where the TMC held 213 seats.

Shah's Ground-Level Campaign and Strategic Moves

Amit Shah's direct involvement was central to this unprecedented success. He spent close to fifteen days camping in West Bengal, transforming the campaign from mere public speeches into a highly organized mission. His approach involved late-night meetings with party leaders to refine strategies and ensure their immediate execution on the ground the following day.

During the day, Shah invigorated the political atmosphere through over fifty rallies and roadshows, directly engaging with voters and party workers. Key policy announcements, such as the promise to implement the Seventh Pay Commission for government employees and a firm stance on law and order, resonated strongly with the electorate. Crucially, Shah's early claim, after the first phase of voting, that the BJP would win over 110 seats created a psychological advantage, fostering a perception among voters in subsequent phases that a change in power was genuinely possible.

The Core Team Behind the Victory

While Shah provided overarching leadership, the victory was a result of a coordinated effort by his five-member core team, each playing a critical role:

  • Dharmendra Pradhan served as the chief strategist, adeptly balancing various social and caste groups. He acted as a vital link between the central and state party units, optimizing resource allocation and leadership coordination.
  • Bhupender Yadav focused on the micro-management of the party's organizational structure. His efforts were crucial in activating workers at the booth level and navigating the complex legal challenges inherent in the electoral process, thereby strengthening the BJP's grassroots presence.
  • Sunil Bansal dedicated his work to sharpening the party's organizational capabilities. He implemented the 'panna pramukh' model, building a robust network of workers that effectively challenged the TMC’s established cadre system. Bansal also worked to resolve internal differences among leaders and, based on four years of feedback from every constituency, addressed shortcomings and mobilized the party against the Mamata Banerjee government on key issues.
  • Biplab Deb leveraged his extensive experience, particularly in areas sharing socio-cultural similarities with Tripura. His aggressive campaign style injected new enthusiasm among party workers and supporters.
  • Amit Malviya spearheaded the BJP's digital narrative battle. Through strategic use of social media, he elevated critical issues to a broader audience and effectively countered opposition propaganda, significantly influencing public opinion.

The combined and sustained efforts of these leaders, guided by Amit Shah, have not only secured a significant electoral outcome but have also written a new chapter in West Bengal's political history, demonstrating the power of a well-planned strategy and strong organizational execution.
