This visit will be President Xi's first trip to India in almost seven years. His last journey to the country was in 2019 for an informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mamallapuram, near Chennai. President Xi has a history of engaging with India on multiple occasions. Prior to the 2019 informal meeting, he attended the BRICS summit held in Goa in 2016. His inaugural visit to India occurred in September 2014, early in the first terms of both President Xi and Prime Minister Modi, where they engaged in extensive bilateral discussions.
The 18th BRICS Summit is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among its member states—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—on various global issues, including economic development, trade, and regional security.
