US President Donald Trump issued a fresh warning to Iran on Wednesday, stating Washington would “again hit them very hard today” if further action was deemed necessary. The declaration comes amid escalating tensions between the two nations, following recent US strikes against Iran.
Trump’s remarks were made in the wake of a US Army Apache helicopter crashing near the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, President Trump initially claimed Iran had shot down the “highly sophisticated” aircraft, asserting that the US “must, of necessity, respond.” A US official later clarified that an Iranian drone had collided with the Apache, leading to its crash.
Negotiations and Nuclear Concerns
Despite the heightened rhetoric, President Trump reiterated that the United States continues to seek a meaningful agreement to de-escalate the conflict. However, he accused Tehran of deliberately delaying negotiations and misleading Washington.
“We're really close to a deal, but they keep tapping us along, they keep playing us for suckers,” Trump stated. He emphasized the strength of the US military, adding, “sometimes you'll have to use it.”
A core element of Trump's stance remains Iran's nuclear ambitions. He unequivocally declared that Iran would not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons. “Iran very simply cannot have a nuclear weapon and they won't,” he affirmed.
The current warnings build upon a series of recent US military actions in response to what Washington perceives as Iranian provocations, further intensifying the volatile situation in the Middle East.
