Washington D.C. – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has asserted that he perceives "no limits" to his power, even after signing a peace deal with Iran. Trump stated he agreed to the pact to prevent the conflict from escalating into a global economic depression, though he denied being humbled by the experience.
Speaking on The Axios Show, Trump reflected on the Iran situation, remarking, "There’s a lesson there, but I haven’t learnt it." He further clarified that he doesn't believe there are any inherent limitations to his authority.
The Iran Peace Deal and Economic Aversion
The agreement, signed over 100 days after Trump had initially predicted a swift victory and Iran's decimation, involved several key points. These included an end to military action, the creation of a $300 billion fund for Iran's reconstruction, and the reopening of the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
Despite signing the peace deal, Trump maintained that the United States had "totally militarily" defeated Iran. He characterized the memorandum of understanding as an "unconditional surrender" by Iran, citing a successful naval blockade he orchestrated.
"Who else could have done a blockade like that? I did a naval blockade where not one ship was able to get through. Some tried. It didn't last very long," Trump claimed, defending his actions against critics who suggested he should have pursued a tougher stance.
Critics and Iranian Response
Trump addressed criticisms that he should have pursued a more aggressive stance, arguing that further military action would have gained nothing and kept the Strait of Hormuz closed, leading to months without oil supply.
Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei offered a contrasting view, suggesting Trump signed the peace pact "out of desperation." Khamenei stated he initially held a "different view" but was convinced by President Masoud Pezeshkian, who argued the deal would "protect the rights of the Iranian nation."
