TMC's Sayani Ghosh Denies Joint Property Ownership with Abhishek Banerjee Amid KMC Scrutiny

· · 2 min read

TMC MP Sayani Ghosh has denied online claims of jointly owning property with Abhishek Banerjee, stating her assets are fully disclosed in her election affidavit. This clarification emerges as the Kolkata Municipal Corporation scrutinizes multiple properties linked to Banerjee and his family.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Sayani Ghosh has publicly refuted allegations circulating online that she jointly owns a property with party colleague Abhishek Banerjee. Ghosh specifically addressed forwards claiming shared ownership of a property at 19 D Seven Tanks Road, Kolkata 700030, stating, "It’s definitely not the Sayani Ghosh who started from a humble background." She has pledged to pursue legal action against those spreading what she termed "fake news."

Ghosh emphasized that her financial details are transparent and accessible, having been fully declared in her election affidavit. "I want my voters to know my assets have been declared on my election affidavit. Check the records," she asserted, urging an end to defaming her without evidence. The TMC MP warned, "Legal action will be taken for spreading fake news. This ‘Ghosh’ won't be bullied."

Her clarification comes amidst heightened scrutiny by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) into numerous properties allegedly connected to Abhishek Banerjee and his family members. The KMC has initiated investigations into 17 to 21 properties.

Notices have been issued by the civic body, demanding approved building plans and related documentation for these properties. Locations under review reportedly include Banerjee's residence on Harish Mukherjee Road, an adjacent building on Kalighat Road, and premises across Premendra Mitra Sarani, Panditiya Road, and Ustad Aamir Khan Sarani. The KMC is particularly interested in sanctioned construction plans, additions, and modifications, including installations such as lifts and escalators.

KMC officials have stated that the collected documents will be meticulously examined to ascertain whether any deviations from sanctioned plans or civic norms have occurred. "If there has been any construction beyond the approved plan or any alteration without prior civic permission, action will be initiated in accordance with the law," a KMC official confirmed.

The notices also instruct property owners to remove any allegedly unauthorized portions within seven days or provide a satisfactory explanation as to why civic action should not be taken. Failure to comply or respond adequately could lead to formal demolition proceedings.
