In a significant political development, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay, has successfully secured the necessary numbers to form the government in Tamil Nadu. The TVK emerged as the single largest party in the recently concluded state elections, clinching 108 seats.
The party's path to government formation was solidified with the backing of key allies. Following initial support, the TVK gained crucial endorsements from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), the Communist Party of India (CPI), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The Congress party also extended its support.
With these alliances, the coalition now commands a total of 119 seats in the assembly. This figure comfortably exceeds the 118-seat halfway mark required to form the government. The Congress secured 5 seats, while the VCK, CPI, and CPM each won two seats.
Thalapathy Vijay himself secured victories in two constituencies, Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East. Even if he were to relinquish one of these seats, the TVK-led alliance would still maintain a clear majority, ensuring a smooth process for staking its claim to form the new government in Tamil Nadu.
This is a developing story, and further details are anticipated.
