· · 2 min read

A Bhiwandi resident, Shadab, donned a Spider-Man costume to assist motorists and clear water from flooded roads in Maharashtra. His actions went viral as municipal aid was delayed amid heavy monsoon rains.

In a heartening display of community spirit, a local man in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, transformed into a 'real-life Spider-Man' to help residents navigate severe flooding caused by relentless monsoon rains. Dressed in the iconic superhero suit, Shadab stepped in to direct traffic and clear stagnant water when official assistance had not yet arrived.

Bhiwandi Floods: An Unlikely Hero Emerges

Heavy downpours had left several parts of Bhiwandi, located in the Thane district, waterlogged, creating hazardous conditions for commuters. Roads became submerged, potholes disappeared beneath the floodwaters, and traffic slowed to a crawl. It was against this backdrop that Shadab decided to take matters into his own hands.

Eyewitnesses and social media videos show Shadab, clad head-to-toe in his Spider-Man attire, actively guiding vehicles through the treacherous, waterlogged stretches. He also assisted in removing accumulated rainwater, making conditions safer for motorists and pedestrians alike.

Inspired by a Superhero

Speaking to news agency ANI, Shadab explained his motivation. "I noticed that the municipal authorities hadn't come here to address the issue of accumulated water," he stated. His choice of costume was deliberate, drawing inspiration from the web-slinging hero. "Inspired by how Spider-Man helps people and saves lives in the movies, I decided to do the same in real life, helping others and clearing away the stagnant water," he added.

His efforts quickly garnered widespread attention online, with many social media users hailing him as a true superhero for his selfless actions during a challenging time for the community.

Maharashtra on High Alert

The incident comes as Maharashtra continues to face a high alert due to intense rainfall, which has led to widespread flooding, waterlogging, and landslides across various districts. State authorities have urged district administrations to remain vigilant, as the India Meteorological Department forecasts further heavy rains in parts of the state. Shadab's initiative highlights the resilience and resourcefulness often seen in communities facing natural calamities.
