Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become India's longest-serving elected leader, surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru's record on June 10, 2026. The Union Cabinet unanimously endorsed his vision for a 'Viksit Bharat' in a congratulatory resolution.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a significant milestone in Indian democracy, becoming the nation's longest-serving elected Prime Minister. On June 10, 2026, Modi completed 4,399 continuous days in office, exceeding the record of 4,398 days held by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, between 1952 and 1964.

The Union Cabinet convened to pass a unanimous resolution, hailing June 10, 2026, as a "historic milestone." The resolution recognized Modi's achievement as a reflection of "India's democratic consciousness, public trust, and the power of public participation," attributing it to the unprecedented public support for a leader committed to a "Nation First" resolve.

A Decade of Governance and Vision

This commendation from the Cabinet comes as the NDA government completes 12 years under Prime Minister Modi's leadership. Including his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi is also nearing 25 years of continuous service as a head of government.

Welfare and Poverty Alleviation Initiatives

The Cabinet's resolution highlighted Modi's 2014 declaration of himself as the country's "Pradhan Sevak" (Chief Servant), emphasizing a governance model centered on the welfare of the poor. Key government achievements cited include providing housing, electricity, clean drinking water, and direct benefit transfers on an unprecedented scale. The resolution also noted free foodgrain distribution to over 80 crore people and free medical treatment for more than 60 crore poor citizens, efforts credited with helping over 25 crore Indians overcome poverty.

Empowering Youth, Women, and Farmers

Significant initiatives aimed at empowering crucial segments of society were also praised:

  • Youth: India has emerged as the world's third-largest startup ecosystem, with strengthened scientific capabilities through missions like Chandrayaan.
  • Women: A new era of "Women-Led Development" was highlighted, encompassing programs from smoke-free kitchens and the Lakhpati Didi scheme to the landmark legislation providing 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies.
  • Farmers: The Cabinet acknowledged the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, the extension of Kisan Credit Cards to pastoralists and fishermen, and agricultural exports surpassing Rs 5 lakh crore.

Key Policy Reforms and National Security

The resolution also lauded a series of transformative policy decisions undertaken during Modi's tenure. These include the abrogation of Article 370, the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), One Rank One Pension (OROP), the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and comprehensive labor code reforms.

On national security, the Cabinet underscored decisive actions such as surgical strikes, cross-border air strikes, "Operation Sindoor," and the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. Efforts to curb Naxalism, peace agreements in the Northeast, and the resolution of the border dispute with Bangladesh were also recognized.

Economic Growth and Global Stature

The resolution credited the "Make in India" and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives with bolstering domestic manufacturing across critical sectors, including defense and artificial intelligence. India's expanding global role was showcased through its G20 presidency, the International Yoga Day, the International Solar Alliance, and Mission LiFE.

Furthermore, the Cabinet noted a cultural renaissance driven by a combination of "Vikas" (development) and "Virasat" (heritage), exemplified by projects like the new Parliament building and Kartavya Path.

Cabinet Reaffirms Support for 'Viksit Bharat'

In its formal resolutions, the Cabinet extended its "heartfelt congratulations and best wishes" to the Prime Minister. It expressed profound gratitude for his unwavering dedication to the poor and marginalized, praising his relentless efforts towards inclusive growth, social justice, and national security.

The resolution concluded by reaffirming the Cabinet's steadfast support for Prime Minister Modi's vision of a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) and expressed confidence that under his continued leadership, India would advance as a self-reliant, secure, and prosperous nation, achieving developed status by 2047.
