Iran's Khamenei Warns US, Israel Against New Attacks, Threatens 'Unrestricted Response'

· · 3 min read

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued a stern warning to the US and Israel, threatening an immediate and geographically unrestricted military response if new attacks occur. This follows US President Trump's signals of potential renewed military action.

Iran Issues Stark Warning Amid Escalating Tensions

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a forceful warning to the United States and Israel, declaring that any fresh military strikes will be met with an immediate and geographically unrestricted response. The declaration comes amidst heightened tensions, with US President Donald Trump signaling possible renewed military action and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describing the situation as a "historic, one-time opportunity" to topple the Iranian government.

President Trump had previously warned of potential new military strikes following the US midterm elections, stating he was considering whether to "finish them off." In response, Khamenei asserted that if adversaries launch further military or terrorist attacks, the Islamic Republic's armed forces and the Iranian nation would dictate the timing and conditions for their cessation. He stressed that "any level or type of threat must be met with an immediate, impactful and geographically unrestricted response."

Khamenei Meets Military Leadership

The Supreme Leader's warning was reportedly delivered during his first public meeting with Iran's military leadership since assuming power in March, following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in US-Israeli strikes. Attendees included armed forces chief of staff Ali Abdollahi, army chief Amir Hatami, and Revolutionary Guards commander Ahmad Vahidi. During the meeting, Khamenei instructed military commanders to update Iran's target list to encompass all "tangible and intangible assets belonging to the American-Zionist enemy."

Strategic Waterway Disrupted

The ongoing conflict has severely impacted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage through which approximately one-fifth of global oil consumption typically transits. Iran has imposed restrictions on traffic in the strait since hostilities began, contributing to a rise in global energy prices. Tehran has also previously indicated its capability to target undersea cables within the strait, raising concerns about broader disruptions to vital infrastructure.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue Amid Threats

Despite the escalating military rhetoric, diplomatic efforts are reportedly underway to avert a full-scale resumption of fighting. Qatar and Pakistan have been mediating between Washington and Tehran, with a Qatari delegation recently arriving in the Iranian capital for discussions with senior officials. US Vice President JD Vance, acting under President Trump's direction, has reportedly sent a letter to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei, aiming to revive negotiations.

However, Iran's military remains defiant. Army spokesman Mohammad Akaraminia warned that if the US president pursues further regional adventurism under pressure from, or to appease, the Zionists, the conflict would "undoubtedly engulf a much wider geographical area." Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi echoed this sentiment, cautioning of an "Earth-shattering blow" from Iran's armed forces and declaring that "there will no longer be any red lines."
