Finland Invites 16 International Singles for Unique 'Dinner Date' to Explore Nordic Cuisine

· · 3 min read

Finland, the world's happiest country, is hosting 16 international singles for a unique 'Finnish Dinner Date' experience. Participants will explore the nation's rich food culture in Helsinki and Tampere, enjoying curated meals and meeting local residents.

Finland, often lauded as the world's happiest country, is launching an innovative initiative to introduce its distinctive food culture to a global audience. Dubbed 'Finnish Dinner Date,' the program will bring 16 international singles to Finland for a series of specially curated group dinner experiences.

Discovering Finnish Food Culture

Organized by Visit Finland, the country's official travel and tourism promotion board, the initiative aims to highlight Finland's culinary traditions, which are deeply connected to nature and changing seasons. Participants will embark on a gastronomic journey, exploring local ingredients like wild fish, game, berries, and mushrooms through expertly prepared tasting menus.

The events are scheduled to take place in two of Finland's vibrant cities: Helsinki and Tampere, between February 9 and 19, 2027. Eight international singles will be selected for each city's unique dinner experience, where they will also have the opportunity to meet local Finnish singles.

Culinary Highlights and Renowned Chefs

  • In Helsinki, Chef Adele Kinnunen, Head Chef at the esteemed Café Savoy, will craft a bespoke menu showcasing the capital's culinary flair.
  • The Tampere experience will feature a menu designed by Chef Henry Tikkanen, restaurateur of Gösta and a former Finnish Chef of the Year, promising an equally memorable dining adventure.

How to Apply for the Finland Dinner Date

Aspiring participants must be single and possess a passion for food and travel. The application process, accessible via FinnishDinnerDate.com, requires applicants to answer one question: "What would you serve on a dinner date, and why?"

To apply, individuals need to create a video in English answering this question and post it on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube. The video must use the hashtag #FinnishDinnerDate and tag Visit Finland's official accounts. After posting, applicants must complete the form on the website, including a link to their video. Videos can be uploaded as "Unlisted" on YouTube if public sharing is not preferred.

The deadline for applications is November 10, 2026, at 11:59 am Finnish time (EET, UTC+2). Selected participants will be announced on December 1 through Visit Finland's social media channels.

Inspired by Local Trends

The concept draws inspiration from Finland's playful "Sinkkukori" or "single basket" trend, where singles use pink grocery baskets while shopping to signal their openness to meeting new people. This initiative extends that spirit of connection to an international stage, using food as a universal language.

"Finnish food is a direct expression of our famously happy way of life: a way of connecting to place, to season, and to the people around you," stated Heli Jimenez, Senior Director, International Marketing at Business Finland. The program aims to foster memorable travel experiences, culinary discoveries, and perhaps even spark new connections among participants.
