NEW DELHI – The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has emerged as the dominant force in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections for 2026, winning three out of the four central panel positions. Results declared on September 19 confirmed ABVP's Yash Dabas as President, Riya Chhawdi as Secretary, and Lakshya Raj Singh as Joint Secretary.
In a notable outcome, independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen secured the Vice-President's post, disrupting the traditional contest between major student organizations. The elections, which saw voting on September 18 and counting conclude the following day, recorded a voter turnout of 40.46 percent.
ABVP Retains Presidential Post
Yash Dabas of ABVP clinched the presidency, defeating Vijay Shankar Meena from the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) by a margin of 2,053 votes, securing a total of 24,576 votes. This victory marks ABVP's continued hold on the top DUSU position, mirroring its success in the previous election cycle.
Key Wins for Secretary and Joint Secretary
The ABVP also celebrated victories in the Secretary and Joint Secretary races. Riya Chhawdi was elected Secretary with 21,650 votes, significantly outpacing the NSUI candidate. Lakshya Raj Singh secured the Joint Secretary position for ABVP, polling 16,615 votes against 15,778 votes for the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha candidate.
Independent Candidate Deepanshu Shokeen Victorious as VP
The Vice-Presidential contest saw Deepanshu Shokeen, who ran as an independent after previously being associated with NSUI, achieve a decisive win. Shokeen garnered an impressive 30,615 votes, demonstrating strong independent support against candidates from established student bodies.
The Congress-backed NSUI did not secure any of the four central DUSU posts in this election. ABVP's performance in 2026 largely mirrors its previous election outcome, where it also won the President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary positions, while the NSUI had previously claimed the Vice-President's role.
