Arundhati Bhattacharya, President and CEO of Salesforce South Asia, warns against treating AI as a standalone tool, emphasizing that its true value emerges when deeply integrated into an organization's core architecture.

The Rise of Agentic AI

The transition to 'agentic AI' systems, which can take actions, trigger workflows, and independently resolve tasks, marks a significant inflection point. While these advanced capabilities promise unprecedented efficiency, they also introduce complex questions of control, accountability, and intent. Bhattacharya highlights that without unified and properly governed data, even the most sophisticated AI systems risk becoming performative rather than genuinely productive.

Beyond Copilots: Autonomous Action

The traditional view of AI as a passive assistant is rapidly being replaced by systems that act as active decision-makers. This shift, discussed at events like the Trailblazing Women Summit, underscores that humans are not being replaced but repositioned. Elevating Human Judgment

Drawing on decades of leadership experience, Bhattacharya asserts that judgment, shaped by context, ethics, and lived experience, cannot be replicated by AI. She notes, “AI doesn’t diminish human judgment, it elevates it.” This means freeing humans from repetitive, transactional tasks, allowing them to focus on high-stakes decisions involving trust, relationships, and long-term strategic impact.

Leadership in the New Era

The agentic AI era is also redefining leadership itself. Speed and innovation can no longer come at the expense of robust governance. Leaders must strike a delicate balance between competitive urgency and ethical responsibility, ensuring their workforce is prepared, customers are protected, and systems remain resilient. Bhattacharya concludes that the ultimate test for organizations will be whether they can intentionally shape AI disruption rather than merely react to it, guiding intelligent machines wisely.
