Palo Alto-based startup Parallel Web Systems, founded by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, has successfully raised $100 million in a Series B funding round. This latest investment elevates the company's valuation to an impressive $2 billion, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The funding round was led by venture capital giant Sequoia Capital, with participation from existing investors including Kleiner Perkins, Index Ventures, and Khosla Ventures. This brings Parallel's total capital raised to approximately $230 million, following a $100 million Series A round in November that valued the company at $740 million.
Empowering Autonomous AI Agents
Parallel Web Systems is at the forefront of developing critical infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) agents, enabling them to seamlessly search and interact with the web. The company's core premise is that autonomous AI agents, designed to complete tasks on behalf of users, will increasingly depend on the web as their primary operational interface.
Parag Agrawal, who served as Twitter's CEO before its acquisition by Elon Musk in 2022, stated that the fresh capital will be deployed to expand Parallel's sales and marketing teams. Additionally, significant investments will continue in research and development, with a strategic focus on targeting enterprise customers.
Growth and Market Position
Andrew Reed, who is joining Parallel's board as part of the funding deal, highlighted the company's rapid traction, attributing it to the proliferation of long-running AI systems. Reed emphasized that a fundamental shared function among these advanced AI agents is their ability to leverage the web.
Parallel currently supports over 100,000 developers, spanning both startups and established enterprises. The company operates in a burgeoning market for AI agent infrastructure, competing with other innovative players such as Tavily and Exa. Agrawal noted the rapid iteration cycle at Parallel, stating, "Every few weeks, we solve one bottleneck and hit another somewhere. We’re building some things I’m really excited about."

The substantial investment underscores investor confidence in Parallel Web Systems' vision and its critical role in shaping the future of AI's interaction with the internet.
