Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has highlighted India’s burgeoning technology talent, forecasting that the nation is poised to host the world's largest developer community by 2030. His remarks came during the IDEAS4INDIA: Indian American Tech CEOs Forum held in Seattle on Thursday, September 17, 2026, where he underscored India's significant role in the global artificial intelligence landscape.
India's AI Potential and Developer Growth
Nadella emphasized that India's expanding pool of skilled technology professionals is a critical driver for its ambitious AI goals. He pointed to the rapid emergence of talent in areas like AI and software development, positioning India as a future leader in the global developer ecosystem. The forum, which gathered over 40 Indian-origin CEOs and CTOs from major companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Intel, served as a platform to discuss the country's technological advancements and future trajectory.
Discussions at the event spanned crucial technological domains, including the development of robust AI infrastructure, the expansion of data centers, advancements in semiconductor design and manufacturing, and cutting-edge quantum technology research. Talent development and skill enhancement were also key themes, reflecting the importance of human capital in this rapidly evolving sector.
Major Tech Investments Fueling Growth
The forum also brought to light substantial investments by global technology giants in India, signaling strong confidence in the country's growth potential. Microsoft announced plans to invest an impressive $17.5 billion between 2026 and 2029. This capital will be allocated towards bolstering cloud and AI infrastructure, enhancing skilling initiatives, and expanding operational capabilities across India.
Similarly, Amazon committed a significant $48 billion investment between 2026 and 2030, primarily focused on expanding its Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center capacity in key Indian cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad. Furthermore, Costco is establishing its inaugural Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad, adding to the growing list of international firms investing in India's tech ecosystem.
Strengthening India-US Tech Cooperation
Organized by the Consulate General of India in Seattle, the forum followed the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The discussions are expected to significantly bolster India-US technology cooperation under the India-US TRUST Initiative, a strategic framework designed to foster collaboration in critical areas such as AI, quantum technology, semiconductors, space, telecommunications, and biotechnology.
The event concluded with a moment of silence for prominent Indian-origin Seattle tech leaders Samir Bodas and S. Somasegar, acknowledging their contributions to the industry.
