iPhone Users Show Higher Loyalty Than Android, New Survey Reveals 10% Gap

· · 2 min read

A 2026 Sell Cell survey reveals iPhone users maintain significantly higher brand loyalty at 96.4%, compared to Android's 86.4%. This 10% loyalty gap indicates more Android users are considering switching devices.

Apple's iPhone users continue to demonstrate exceptional brand loyalty, significantly outperforming Android users, according to the latest Smartphone Loyalty Survey 2026 conducted by Sell Cell. The comprehensive study, based on responses from over 5,000 users, found that iPhone loyalty stands at an impressive 96.4%.

In stark contrast, Android loyalty was recorded at 86.4%, establishing a substantial 10% loyalty gap between the two dominant smartphone ecosystems. This indicates a much higher switch rate among Android users, with 13.6% planning to move to a different brand, compared to just 3.6% of iPhone users.

iPhone Loyalty Strengthens Over Time

The 2026 survey highlights a notable increase in iPhone loyalty, climbing from 91.9% in 2021. This consistent growth underscores Apple's robust user base, considered one of the most stable in the technology industry.

While Android users show strong loyalty at 86.4%, the difference in switching behavior is key. Of the Android users considering a change, 26.8% expressed interest in switching to an iPhone. Conversely, among the smaller percentage of iPhone users looking to switch, nearly 70% would opt for Samsung devices, and approximately 20% would choose Google smartphones. Samsung's loyalty itself has seen a jump from 74% in 2021 to 90.1% in 2026, with Google's rising from 65.2% to 86.8% in the same period.

Understanding User Retention and Switching Patterns

The study delved into the reasons behind user loyalty and switching decisions. For iPhone users, brand preference emerged as the primary driver, retaining 60.8% of users. Another 17.4% remain loyal due to their investment in Apple's interconnected ecosystem of devices and services.

Android users, on the other hand, benefit from a wider array of device choices, which contributes to greater flexibility but also higher switching rates as they frequently explore alternatives. Many Android users also perceive iPhones as being too expensive or believe other brands offer superior value.

The Longevity Factor in Smartphone Usage

Beyond loyalty rates, the survey also examined how long users stick with their current smartphone brands. A significant majority of iPhone users, 83.8%, reported having used their current brand for more than five years. This demonstrates a strong long-term commitment.

In contrast, only 33.8% of Android users could claim the same level of long-term dedication to their brand. This disparity further illustrates the enduring appeal and retention power of the iPhone.

“The smartphone market is becoming more stable than in both 2019 and 2021, with stronger brand attachment and less frequent switching than ever before.”
