Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 is just weeks away, and anticipation is building around the reveal of iOS 27. The Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to unveil substantial artificial intelligence (AI)-powered upgrades, promising a more intelligent and intuitive iPhone experience.
A Smarter Siri Experience
One of the most anticipated enhancements in iOS 27 centers around Siri. Reports suggest Apple will launch a dedicated Siri app, complete with an "Extensions" feature, across devices supporting iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. This new app is expected to transform Siri into a more sophisticated AI chatbot, capable of advanced capabilities akin to modern platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude.
Users will reportedly be able to interact with Siri using both voice commands and text conversations. Furthermore, Siri may gain the ability to remember and display past chats, allowing for ongoing, contextual conversations rather than isolated commands. Apple CEO Tim Cook has previously hinted at these advancements, stating, “We look forward to bringing a more personalised Siri to users coming this year.”
Enhanced Visual Intelligence Features
Beyond Siri, iOS 27 is also expected to significantly upgrade its Visual Intelligence capabilities. This feature could leverage the iPhone's camera and AI to comprehend real-world text and objects, then automatically perform useful actions. For instance, the system may be able to read and analyze nutrition labels, identifying calories, protein, carbs, and fats, then seamlessly save this data to the Health app for tracking.
Another potential application for Visual Intelligence includes scanning business cards, paper documents, or other items containing contact details. The AI would then automatically extract and add relevant information, such as contact numbers, directly into the user’s Contacts app, streamlining data entry and organization.
Potential Partnership with Google Gemini
As part of its broader AI strategy, Apple may also announce plans to partner with Google, potentially integrating Google's Gemini AI models to power some of its new AI features. This collaboration could further bolster the capabilities and reach of iOS 27's intelligent functionalities. More details are expected to be revealed during the WWDC 2026 keynote, scheduled for June 8.
