Google has rolled out a significant productivity update to its Gemini AI chatbot app, enabling users to generate a variety of downloadable and ready-to-share workspace files directly from simple text prompts. This new feature aims to streamline document creation, eliminating the need for manual copying, pasting, and reformatting.
How Gemini Transforms Prompts into Documents
The Gemini app now supports the creation of numerous file types, including Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, as well as common formats like PDF, DOCX (Microsoft Word), XLSX (Microsoft Excel), CSV, LaTeX, TXT (Plain Text), RTF (Rich Text Format), and MD (Markdown).
Users can leverage this capability by providing clear instructions to Gemini. For example, one could prompt, "Create an in-depth study guide as a PDF in LaTeX format using my lecture notes. Include visuals, graphs, and equations." This allows for complex document structures and content to be generated with ease, from a budget proposal in Excel to an organized outline from unformatted notes.
Global Rollout and Broader AI Integration
The update is being rolled out globally to all Gemini app users, including Google Workspace customers, individual subscribers, and those with personal Google accounts. This widespread availability means a broad user base can immediately benefit from enhanced document generation capabilities.
This feature builds upon Google's ongoing efforts to integrate AI more deeply into its productivity suite. Previously, Google Workspace introduced "Workspace Intelligence," which helps understand connections between files, projects, and people across Google apps like Docs, Slides, and Gmail. This intelligence can automate tasks, summarize related emails and documents, suggest relevant files, and even auto-create reports or presentations to boost team collaboration.
Additionally, Google has also released a "Memories" feature for Gemini, allowing the chatbot to retain important details from user conversations to provide more personalized and consistent assistance. However, the "Memories" feature is currently available in the UK and other European countries.
