· · 3 min read

Arboreal Bioinnovations has closed a ₹230 crore Series A funding round, co-led by EAAA Alternatives and Omnivore. The capital will fuel expanded manufacturing, enhanced R&D, and the commercialization of its specialty food ingredients.

Arboreal Bioinnovations Private Limited, a company specializing in advanced food ingredients, today announced the successful close of its Series A funding round, raising ₹230 crore (approximately $27.5 million USD). This significant investment, co-led by EAAA Alternatives (the alternatives arm of Edelweiss) and Omnivore, also saw participation from existing investor Rainmatter by Zerodha. The fundraise marks one of the largest Series A transactions within India's specialty food ingredients sector.

Strategic Investment to Boost Manufacturing and R&D

The newly secured capital is earmarked for several key initiatives designed to accelerate Arboreal's growth trajectory. The company plans to substantially expand its manufacturing capacity, strengthen its research and development capabilities, and fast-track the commercialization of its innovative functional ingredients.

Swati Pandey, Co-Founder and CEO of Arboreal Bioinnovations, emphasized the importance of this funding. "This fundraise is a strong validation of the direction we are taking as a company. It gives us the fuel to accelerate our mission of building clean, science-led solutions that address some of the world's most pressing nutritional and food challenges, with innovation originating in India and reaching consumers globally," she stated.

Innovation Across Next-Generation Ingredients

Arboreal operates on a contextual innovation model, meticulously designed to meet the specific nutritional, functional, and commercial demands of Indian consumer brands. Its proprietary technology platform seamlessly integrates ingredient engineering, process R&D, formulation science, and precision manufacturing.

The company's product portfolio spans a diverse range of next-generation ingredients, including advanced proteins, cocoa-based alternatives, natural zero-calorie sweeteners, and functional fibers. Arboreal has demonstrated impressive year-on-year growth, supporting over 300 product launches for more than 1,100 consumer brands and nutraceutical manufacturers in the last 18 months alone.

Manish Chauhan, Co-Founder and COO, highlighted the company's journey. "This fundraise marks an important milestone in Arboreal’s journey from building IP-led ingredient technologies to enabling big shifts across categories through ingredient-first innovation. The confidence shown by EAAA, Omnivore, and Rainmatter validates both the strength of our platform and the opportunity ahead of us," Chauhan added, expressing excitement about deeper investments in science, manufacturing, talent, and long-term innovation.

Investor Confidence in Market Potential

Investors articulated strong belief in Arboreal's potential to lead the specialty food ingredients market. Ashish Agarwal, Managing Director of Private Equity at EAAA Alternatives, noted that the investment reflects their fund's strategy of backing potential category leaders. "As the first investment from our Discovery Fund II, we are particularly excited at the long-term growth prospects of Arboreal’s next-generation yeast protein products," Agarwal commented.

Jinesh Shah, Managing Partner at Omnivore, underscored the market need Arboreal addresses. "The shift toward clean-label and functional foods requires engineered ingredients that deliver clear health benefits without sacrificing taste or margins. Arboreal fills a critical market gap with locally developed formulations. From sweetener alternatives to novel yeast proteins and collagens, Arboreal’s R&D stack positions them to power the next wave of health and wellness brands," said Shah.

Dinesh Pai, Head of Investments at Rainmatter, voiced his support for domestic R&D. "We truly wanted to back Swati and Manish in building a world-class R&D team working on food ingredients from India. We believe that they are the right team, with exceptional grit to chase down this problem. Rainmatter exists to back these audacious bets, and this is one of them," Pai concluded.
