Apple is reportedly venturing into the enterprise artificial intelligence market by developing dedicated servers powered by its future M8 Ultra chips. M8 Ultra for AI Workloads
According to reports, Apple intends to sell these enterprise-grade servers to external clients, including AI developers, government entities, and other corporations. The servers are specifically designed to handle demanding AI workloads, leveraging the power of the M8 Ultra processor.
Two main configurations are reportedly under consideration: a standard version featuring two M8 Ultra chips and a higher-performance variant equipped with four M8 Ultra chips. There is also speculation that these servers could integrate Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion technology, which would facilitate efficient communication and collaboration between the M8 Ultra chips within data centers, crucial for complex AI tasks.
Long-Term Vision and Uncertainties
While the project shows Apple's ambition in the AI space, the servers are not expected to ship until 2029, indicating a long development timeline. Internal discussions regarding the project have reportedly been ongoing for over a year, with Apple CEO John Ternus reportedly in favor of the initiative.
