· · 2 min read

Anthropic's Claude AI models now offer in-country data processing through Amazon Bedrock's India infrastructure. This move ensures data residency, crucial for regulated Indian sectors like banking and government, and signifies India as a major market for Claude.

Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence research company, has announced a significant expansion of its Claude AI models in India, now offering local data processing capabilities. This strategic move, facilitated through Amazon Bedrock's India infrastructure, ensures that all data processed by Claude AI remains within India's geographical borders.

This development is particularly crucial for India's highly regulated sectors, including banking, government agencies, and healthcare providers. By keeping data in-country, organizations can meet stringent data residency and regulatory compliance requirements, paving the way for wider adoption of sophisticated AI applications in sensitive environments.

Meeting India's Growing AI Demand

India has emerged as one of the largest global markets for Claude, demonstrating a robust demand from Indian businesses for enterprise AI solutions hosted on local infrastructure. Anthropic's Managing Director for India, Irina Ghose, highlighted that localized inference significantly simplifies the transition for businesses from pilot AI projects to large-scale deployments.

The company is not only expanding its operational footprint but also investing in local talent and partnerships. Anthropic plans to train over 5,000 professionals through its partner ecosystem, aiming to build a strong foundation of local AI expertise. Furthermore, plans include expanding its India workforce, enhancing Claude's support for various Indian languages, and forging new collaborations with local organizations and businesses.

Enhancing Cybersecurity and Public Services

Beyond compliance, Anthropic is actively contributing to India's cybersecurity landscape. The AI startup has collaborated with key national bodies like the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), MOSIP (Modular Open Source Identity Platform), and OpenG2P (Open-Source Government-to-Person Payments) on several cybersecurity initiatives.

Claude AI is already being leveraged for AI-assisted security testing, helping organizations identify vulnerabilities, rigorously test software security, and fortify their overall cybersecurity systems. Additionally, the AI model is playing a role in digital public infrastructure (DPI) projects, which are essential for delivering public services such as digital identity, payments, healthcare, and other government functionalities.

To further improve Claude's performance in Indian languages, Anthropic has partnered with Karya, aligning with the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments. This collaboration underscores Anthropic's commitment to making its advanced AI technology accessible and effective across India's diverse linguistic landscape.
