Gaikwad Confident Despite IPL Form Slump, Says 'Big Knock Just Around Corner'

· · 3 min read

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad dismissed concerns about his current IPL batting form, stating he feels positive and a 'big knock is just around the corner.' Despite scoring only 63 runs in five innings, Gaikwad highlighted the team's improved cohesion after their second consecutive victory.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has brushed aside concerns regarding his batting form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Despite a lean patch, accumulating just 63 runs across five innings, Gaikwad expressed confidence, stating he feels positive and believes a significant innings is imminent.

CSK Finds Momentum

Gaikwad's comments came after CSK secured their second consecutive win, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 32 runs. The victory moved the Super Kings up to eighth place in the points table, signaling a positive shift for the transitioning side.

"Slowly, slowly, it is starting to come together, I feel," Gaikwad told the broadcaster post-match. "Everyone kind of knows what their role is, which overs and what lengths to bowl at. I think they are adjusting and adapting really well according to what the team needs."

The captain acknowledged that the team initially targeted a score around 210-220, but the pitch conditions changed significantly after the powerplay. A total of 192/5 proved to be more than sufficient.

Individual Form and Team Contribution

Addressing his personal performance, Gaikwad admitted his form had been weighing on him but felt more relaxed after the previous game. "Just make sure that I do whatever the team needs, whatever the situation needs. And I feel even mentally, I'm feeling really well, feeling positive, and just a big, a big knock is just around the corner, but as long as the other guys are just covering up for me definitely I'll do it when it's needed," he affirmed.

CSK's recent success was also bolstered by stellar individual performances. Spinner Noor Ahmad was instrumental in the KKR win, returning figures of 3/21 and picking up crucial wickets. Ahmad highlighted the importance of managing humid conditions and dew to hit the right areas.

Kolkata Knight Riders Seek Positivity

Meanwhile, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane reflected on his team's struggles, particularly with their batting momentum. Despite his bowlers doing well to restrict CSK to 192 after a strong start, KKR's batters failed to capitalize.

"No real momentum with the bat, absolutely. I thought with the ball we really did good, 190 on this wicket was really good, especially in the powerplay they got 70 odd runs," Rahane stated. "After that, pulling back to 190 was an amazing job from our bowling unit."

Rahane emphasized the need for his team to maintain a positive outlook despite facing five losses this season. He also praised pacer Kartik Tyagi for his hard work and impressive pace, noting his continuous improvement.
