Lee attributes this to the advanced skills of contemporary batsmen, who he says are faster, stronger, and far more innovative than those from his playing era.
Modern Batters Redefine T20 Cricket
Lee noted that even impeccably delivered balls are no longer safe from the onslaught of modern batters. "It's literally like a nightmare for a bowler," Lee stated, adding, "You're praying before you go to bowl in the IPL." He explained that today's batsmen move around the crease with such agility that what was once a perfect yorker can now be easily dispatched for six.
Beyond individual skill, Lee also highlighted the challenging playing conditions in T20 matches. Bowlers often contend with a wet ball on a damp surface, introducing numerous variables that further complicate their task.

Reflecting on his own career, Lee spoke about the immense physical demands of fast bowling. He revealed that he would typically cover around 17 kilometers during an average day of play. The force generated upon landing after delivering a ball was substantial, with most bowlers experiencing impact equivalent to twice their body weight. For Lee, it was an astonishing 16 times his 88-kilogram frame.
To sustain such a rigorous career, Lee emphasized the critical role of fitness and recovery. Fast bowlers, he noted, effectively become their own physiotherapists, chiropractors, and doctors, needing an intimate understanding of their bodies to survive the sport's demands.

Lee also shared insights into his aggressive on-field personality, revealing it was a conscious creation for matches. He described playing cricket as "almost like acting," where he transformed into an "enforcer" determined to overcome any obstacle. During his IPL tenure with the Kolkata Knight Riders, Lee developed a strong emotional connection to the franchise.
