Veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya has lauded Aditya Dhar's Ranveer Singh-starrer 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge,' declaring it the 'perfect picture after Sholay.' The blockbuster sequel has grossed over Rs 1,700 crore globally and is Bollywood's first to cross Rs 1,000 crore domestically.

Renowned filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya has delivered high praise for Aditya Dhar's latest directorial, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge,' starring Ranveer Singh. Barjatya, known for his family-centric narratives, surprisingly labeled the action-packed sequel as the "perfect picture after Sholay," a monumental comparison in Indian cinema.

Barjatya's Unreserved Acclaim for 'Dhurandhar'

Speaking to SCREEN, Sooraj Barjatya expressed his profound admiration for 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge,' acknowledging its blockbuster status despite a stark departure from his signature family-oriented themes. "As a filmmaker, whatever’s good is good. I think Dhurandhar is a perfect picture after Sholay. Every character is so well done. Hats off to Aditya," Barjatya stated. His endorsement highlights the film's strong character development and overall cinematic quality, cementing its place in his estimation as a truly outstanding production.

Barjatya also emphasized the importance of diverse storytelling in cinema: "All subjects should get made but this type of content is very important, so that we can tell the younger generation to trust, hope, and support each other, otherwise we’re all getting divided. Why should there be any loneliness?"

'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' Shatters Box Office Records

'Dhurandhar: The Revenge,' the sequel to the highly successful 'Dhurandhar,' has been a phenomenal success, both critically and commercially. Released on March 19, the film rapidly amassed over Rs 1,700 crore globally within just four weeks. This achievement positions it as a major triumph for Bollywood, notably becoming the first Hindi film to surpass Rs 1,000 crore in domestic earnings.

The first installment, 'Dhurandhar,' which introduced Ranveer Singh as Hamza, an Indian spy infiltrating terror networks in Pakistan's Lyari, also enjoyed massive success, grossing over Rs 1,300 crore worldwide. The sequel sees Hamza's character evolve, ascending Pakistan's political ladder to become a kingpin in Lyari, further advancing his mission.

Star-Studded Cast and Barjatya's Next Venture

The 'Dhurandhar' franchise boasts an impressive ensemble cast, with Ranveer Singh leading alongside R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun in key roles.

Meanwhile, Sooraj Barjatya is currently immersed in his upcoming project, 'Yeh Prem Mol Liya.' This film will star Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari in the main roles. While a release date has not yet been announced, Ayushmann Khurrana has hinted that the movie will offer more than just family entertainment, carrying an important message for its audience.
