Juhi Chawla Recalls Shah Rukh Khan's Early Financial Struggle: Lost Car Over EMI

· · 2 min read

Actress Juhi Chawla recently recounted Shah Rukh Khan's significant financial setback before his superstardom. He lost his only car, a black Gypsy, due to unpaid EMIs while juggling multiple film shoots in Mumbai.

Long before he became a global icon and expanded his cricket franchise, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan faced considerable financial hardships, including the repossession of his only car. This poignant memory was recently shared by veteran actress Juhi Chawla, shedding light on Khan's determined journey to success.

Shah Rukh Khan's Early Struggles in Mumbai

During his formative years in the Hindi film industry, Shah Rukh Khan arrived in Mumbai from Delhi without a permanent home. Juhi Chawla recalled him often eating and drinking tea with film unit members, fully immersing himself in the production environment. Despite these challenges, Khan maintained an unwavering focus on his work, moving between multiple film sets tirelessly.

The Day Shah Rukh Khan Lost His Only Car

Chawla vividly recounted an incident where Khan, then working simultaneously on films like 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman', 'Dil Aashna Hai', and another project with Divya Bharti, owned just one vehicle: a black Gypsy. Due to unpaid EMIs, his car was repossessed by the bank.

"He wasn't able to pay the EMI for the car. Something happened and his car got taken away and he had nothing," Chawla stated, recalling Khan arriving on set feeling visibly dejected that day. "I must've said, 'Arre koi baat nahi, you'll have many more cars. They'll just come, you just see. Don't worry. It's nothing.' He still remembers it. Now look at him. Look at where he's gone."

Years later, Shah Rukh Khan himself confirmed the story in 2015, revealing that Juhi Chawla had lent him her car to complete his shoots after the repossession. He even recounted a remarkable coincidence where he later found himself riding in his repossessed car during a different film shoot, having been sold off in lots.

From Repossessed Car to Global Empire

This resurfaced anecdote draws a stark contrast to Khan's current achievements. Just recently, he announced the opening of the Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Los Angeles, a significant milestone for his global cricket franchise. The journey from losing his sole vehicle to inaugurating an international sports facility underscores Shah Rukh Khan's incredible resilience and ambition.

The story serves as a powerful reminder of the humble beginnings and immense dedication that propelled one of Bollywood's biggest stars to unprecedented success.
