· · 2 min read

Christopher Nolan's epic film 'The Odyssey' has surpassed the ₹100 crore net collection mark in India, reaching ₹108.20 crore by its ninth day. A significant 61.3% jump on its second Saturday propelled its domestic box office success.

Christopher Nolan's latest cinematic spectacle, 'The Odyssey,' has officially entered the coveted ₹100 crore club in India. The film, which reimagines Homer's ancient Greek epic poem, achieved this significant milestone by its ninth day in theaters, showcasing remarkable staying power at the box office.

Impressive Box Office Trajectory

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'The Odyssey' recorded a net collection of ₹11.05 crore on its ninth day, a substantial 61.3% increase from its Day 8 earnings of ₹6.85 crore. This surge brought the film's total India net collection to ₹108.20 crore, with a gross collection standing at ₹129.15 crore.

The film's strong performance began with an impressive first week, netting ₹90.30 crore. It opened with ₹17.40 crore on its first Friday, followed by ₹22 crore on Saturday and ₹21.90 crore on Sunday. While weekday collections saw a natural dip, they remained steady, setting the stage for a powerful second weekend bounce.

Factors Behind the Success

The sustained demand for 'The Odyssey' is largely attributed to strong word-of-mouth and overwhelmingly positive reviews. Furthermore, the film has seen high demand for premium viewing formats like IMAX, where tickets have consistently been in high demand since its release on July 15.

Despite carrying an 'Adults Only' (A) certificate, the epic has maintained a robust theatrical run across multiple language versions, including English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, with the original English version contributing the majority of its earnings.

Global Acclaim and Star-Studded Cast

'The Odyssey' features an ensemble cast led by Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland as Telemachus. The film also boasts performances from acclaimed actors such as Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo, and Mia Goth.

Globally, 'The Odyssey' has also made a significant impact, amassing an estimated $257.8 million worldwide. This includes $51 million from North American theaters and $137.3 million from 73 international markets, positioning it as one of Christopher Nolan's biggest global openings to date, surpassing previous hits like 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'Oppenheimer'.
