Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has introduced a significant change to his long-standing Sunday tradition of greeting fans outside his Juhu residence, Jalsa. On Sunday, the 83-year-old actor appeared behind a newly installed, three-sided bulletproof glass enclosure, signaling heightened security measures following recent threats.
This move comes amidst growing concerns within the film industry, particularly after a recent shooting incident involving actor Tiger Shroff. Bachchan's decision to use a protective enclosure follows an alleged threatening email received in October, which reportedly named Jalsa, the Mumbai mayor’s office, and a venue for Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming concert as potential targets.
Enhanced Security After Threats
The transparent enclosure, reportedly around 12 feet tall, allowed Bachchan to maintain his weekly commitment while ensuring his safety. Videos circulated on social media showed the actor, dressed in a red jacket and cap, waving and greeting hundreds of admirers with folded hands from inside the protective screen. His son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, was also present, closely monitoring the arrangements alongside heavy Mumbai Police deployment.
While Bachchan had previously met fans under enhanced security on October 25, Sunday marked the first time he utilized the bulletproof glass. Neither Bachchan nor his family has publicly commented on the new security setup, but his continued appearance underscores his dedication to the tradition.
Fan Support and Industry Concerns
Despite the unusual arrangement, fans continued to gather in large numbers outside Jalsa, many expressing support and praising the actor for upholding his commitment. Social media users largely approved of the decision, with many conveying their well wishes and understanding of the need for increased protection.
The incident highlights a period of heightened alert within the Bollywood community, prompting increased security measures for prominent figures following a series of alarming events.
